Big Yard family brings good cheer!

Plastic bottles continue to dominate beach garbage

Rik Rok signs with VP Records
Sources at VP Records have indicated that Ricardo 'Rik Rok' Ducent has signed on to produce an album for VP Records. The Big Yard recording artiste's first major project with the label will be the stateside release of the recent number one hit, Your Eyes which features Shaggy. Your Eyes was produced by Christopher 'Langman' Birch on the Salsa rhythm. It scored well on local charts late last year, and spent two weeks at the top of the New York Reggae chart. Shaggy and Rik Rok are number one on the New York Reggae chart

Shaggy and Rik Rok have scored their second number one song on the New York Reggae chart with their latest collaboration Your Eyes. Released on the Big Yard label's Salsa rhythm, Your Eyes has removed Beres Hammond and Jah Youth's Good Old Dancehall Vibes from the top of the chart. The last time that Shaggy and Rik Rok were number one, was back in 2001 when It Wasn't Me spent multiple weeks atop the New York Reggae chart.

'Come ketch the vibe' at Backyaard

Backyaard, the latest addition to Kingston's burgeoning nighttime entertainment spots, had its official opening with a jam session last Thursday to animated and appreciative gathering on Constant Spring Road in Kingston. Performing a capella, Brian and Tony Gold kicked of the night reminiscing on their start as separate performers at the Tastee Talent contest and took the audience through their raft of songs. It was an entertaining night as it unfolded with entertainers Rik Rok, Lukie D, Singing Melody, Tony Curtis, Delly Ranks, Wickerman and Captain Barky, and Richie Stephens sharing the stage. "I don't think it is fair for them to do it. They are basing it on a lifestyle they perceive us as living," argues singer/songwriter Rik Rok. "I know insurance companies are in a business and they have to operate in a way to make money, but I don't think it is fair for them to do it. Maybe one entertainer crashes like two cars in a year, so they feel that all of us are the same thing and therefore charge us more."

Big Yard parts company with MCA Records

BIG Yard Music, the record label co-founded by deejay Shaggy, has ended its two-year-old distribution deal with Universal Music's MCA Records Reports doing the rounds was that Big Yard was dropped by MCA, however, Robert Livingston, CEO of the nine-year-old company, said he took the decision to part company with MCA, and the deal strung in 2001, after the major label failed to give adequate promotion to Big Yard's projects
